Blog of Impossible Things

Whenever someone asks me what I want to study in college or what I want to do after college I always just say nothing. I don’t want to go to college. I don’t want to get stuck in a job I hate just to make a bunch of money that I don’t have the time to spend. And even if I pick a job I enjoy, I will be burdened with the stress of barely making ends meet each month. I don’t want to attend college just so that they can mold me into whatever America needs at the time and spit me out into a world that’s already laid out for me. I don’t want to sit in a classroom staring at a textbook and stressing about some bullshit test that doesn’t even test my knowledge on the subject. The education system is so flawed it makes me sick. I love learning, but I can’t stand the pressure that is puts on students starting at such a young age. If I get hit by a car at age 30 and die, would I really be proud of myself for suffering through college and stressing about all of those exams? I want to go out into the world and learn things. I want to connect with people, change things, see what all of this planet has to offer and actually leave my impression on this world. I only have roughly 90 years on this planet. Why would I stress through college just to qualify for a job I hate in hopes that one day I will save up enough money to retire even though I will be far too old to actually put the money to use. Then, I will just sit around and wait to die. Everyone’s life is already planned out for them and if someone doesn’t follow the exact plan then everyone looks down on them. Everyone thinks that they’re a failure and that they need to get their life together. I have no passion to pursue. I have no big dream. I just want to live and travel and experience things and feel. Why can’t I do that?

THIS. I actually felt exactly the same way when I was in school (though I live in England myself) - the educational system is so high-pressure and completely one track. It seemed designed to just push you from one place to another without giving you any say in the matter. I never wanted to go to University, but I felt like I didn’t have a choice and ended up going anyway. It was the worst year of my life, and now I’ve quit, I’m so much happier. It’s not that education isn’t important to me, and I haven’t necessarily given up on ever doing another course or anything like that. I just hated the idea that I had to spend the first 21 years or so of my life doing exactly what everybody else was doing; I felt that my future was already laid out neatly ahead of me and if I didn’t jump off soon, I’d end up getting dragged along into a life I really didn’t want.

I hate things like this. You don’t have to go to college. School doesn’t have to be for you. But good luck getting a job...
